Canadian artist Kyle Sorensen is best known for his rich portrayal of landscapes through the lens of geometric abstraction. Resonating with the Cubists, as well as the language of hard edge painting, Sorensen’s fractured acrylic landscapes are a fresh approach to traditional landscape painting. Inspired by the vast beauty of Northern Ontario and the waters of Georgian Bay, Kyle’s work focuses on dissecting these three dimensional landmasses in to their simplest two dimensional form, with immense concentrating on bold colours and razor sharp transitions.
Sorensen’s work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and venues in Canada since his first solo exhibition in 2013. Kyle was also nominated for the “BMO 1st Art Award” in 2013.
Anne deJong is a landscape painter living in Alberta. She works primarily with a palette knife and oils, creating rich and textured paintings. Her work is centred around capturing the beauty she sees in nature. The majority of Anne’s art takes inspiration from Alberta’s Rocky Mountains, and she uses her personal connection to the landscape to ground her paintings. She actively seeks out opportunities to explore natural settings and experience wild and remote landscapes. Her paintings are a commitment to share not only places she has personally experienced, but also landscapes that are dear to her viewers. Spending time in the mountains always brings a feeling of peace and of awe for the vastness of the wilderness, and she tries to portray that feeling in each painting.
